Music in your business
You pay for two things: the music service and the licence to play music to the public. At BackSound Stream the music starts at € 9.99 a month (excl. VAT, billed yearly) for one room; STREAM PRO costs € 29.95 and covers up to five rooms. The licence from Buma/Stemra and Sena you arrange yourself via mijnlicentie.nl. How much it is depends on the type of business and its floor area; you calculate it there.
No. Spotify's terms only allow personal, non-commercial use; playing music in a shop, café, salon or gym is explicitly excluded. With STREAM PRO you import your Spotify playlists one to one, so you play the same music legally for business.
The radio is fine, as long as you hold the Buma/Stemra and Sena licence; you do get the station's adverts and choices with it. YouTube and YouTube Music, like Spotify, are for personal use only. If you want to decide what plays yourself, without adverts, you need a business music service.
A device to open the player on — a PC, laptop, tablet or phone — and speakers with an amplifier, or Sonos. The player usually connects to what is already there. If you would rather not arrange anything yourself, choose STREAM PRO + PC: we supply and install a ready-made music computer. We supply and install speakers and amplifiers too.
The music computer is not a separate purchase: it comes with the STREAM PRO + PC package, because the legal music comes from the subscription. Once your subscription has run for five years, the computer is yours at no extra cost. Already have a PC? STREAM and STREAM PRO run on it just fine.
With us that is STREAM: € 9.99 a month billed yearly or € 14.95 a month monthly (excl. VAT), for one room with more than 67,000 ready-made playlists. You switch a playlist on and remove any track that does not suit your venue. Search, your own playlists, the scheduler and Spotify import come with STREAM PRO. The Buma/Stemra and Sena licence comes on top with every provider.
With STREAM PRO and STREAM PRO + PC the music simply keeps playing: 400 tracks are stored locally on the player, plenty for a day. When the connection is back, everything carries on by itself. STREAM does need an internet connection.
All the time. New tracks arrive in the catalogue of 120 million songs, and the charts — such as the Top 40 and the Spotify, Shazam and Apple Music lists — are refreshed in the player automatically every week. If a track is not there yet, your guests can request it with STREAM PRO through the Request App and we add it.
Yes, with the scheduler. It lets you plan music by day and by time, for example calm at opening and more tempo in the afternoon. The scheduler comes with STREAM PRO and STREAM PRO + PC; with STREAM you add it for € 5 a month.
Yes. With the Remote App you control the player from a smartphone: louder or softer, skip a track or pick another playlist. The Remote App comes with STREAM PRO and STREAM PRO + PC.
The first rollout is on 2 November 2026. Pre-order before 2 November and you try it free for 3 days, get 2 months off your first yearly invoice on any plan, and hear from us before that date. If you choose the package with the music computer, we plan the installation together; with a pre-order it is free.
About the subscription
A pre-order comes with no obligations: nothing is charged and you do not need to give payment details. You try the player free for 3 days, with the complete catalogue and the features of your plan. Then your first yearly invoice comes, with 2 months off.
Yes. With Spotify import you bring in your existing playlists in a few clicks. Our catalogue contains the same music, but fully licensed for business use.
Plans start from a fixed amount per month, billed yearly — see the pricing overview. No hidden costs. The Buma/Stemra and Sena licence for music in your business is separate and yours to arrange at mijnlicentie.nl; that is the case with every music service.
Yes. Every business that plays music to the public needs a public performance licence from Buma/Stemra (composers and lyricists) and Sena (artists and producers). You request it at mijnlicentie.nl and it is separate from your subscription — with BackSound Stream and with every other provider. Our subscription covers the rights to stream the music itself for business use.
Consumer services such as Spotify and Apple Music are licensed for private use only. Playing music in a business space is not covered and can lead to fines. BackSound Stream is fully licensed for commercial use.
A zone is a room. With us one player serves up to five zones: you switch between the rooms inside the player, and with its own amplifier per room each zone gets its own music and its own schedule. We supply and install those amplifiers ourselves. With services that have no multiroom, every zone is a separate player with a separate subscription.
Yes. Paying monthly, you can always cancel; the month already invoiced plays out and after that you pay nothing more. Paying yearly, you cancel at the latest one month before the renewal date; otherwise it runs for another year. You cancel in My account, or by calling or WhatsApping us on +31 88 425 9888.
STREAM is made for switching on a ready-made playlist and leaving it be: 67,000+ playlists, one room, and you can take out a track that does not suit your business. Searching the catalogue, building your own playlists, the Remote and Request App, the scheduler and Spotify import come with STREAM PRO.
No. The scheduler comes with STREAM PRO and up. On STREAM you can add it for € 5 a month.
One subscription covers up to five rooms from a single player. If you have more, an extra playback point is added: € 12.50 a month on STREAM PRO and PRO + PC.
Yes. STREAM and STREAM PRO run on your own PC, laptop or tablet. The STREAM PRO + PC plan is for those who would rather receive a ready-to-use music computer that we come and connect.
The music computer belongs to the STREAM PRO + PC plan and stays ours for as long as it runs. Every three years we replace it with a faster one. Once the subscription has run for five years it becomes yours at no extra cost. Equipment you buy separately — a € 350 touchscreen, for instance — is yours straight away.
Installation is a one-off € 169. Place a pre-order now and choose the PC plan and we do it free of charge.
All hardware and the call-out charge. If something breaks we replace it — including a music computer that has become slow over time. With the STREAM PRO + PC plan the first year of service is free; after that, service and maintenance costs € 120 per year.
